Retirement Account Roll Overs

One of the main things people should do is to take control of their money when they have the opportunity. When you separate from a company it is usually one of those times. If you have an existing 401k or similar tax deferred account (including Roth and TSP’s or Thrift Savings Plan) you have the right to do a tax-free penalty free roll over of those funds into an IRA.

Another time when you can generally access your work sponsored retirement account is when you turn 59 & 1/2 years of age. You can usually (depends on your plan administrator and the rules for that particular retirement program) roll over at least your portion of those funds out of the employers control. That doesn’t mean you still can’t contribute to the employer plan (especially if you are receiving an employer match on your contributions) but it does mean you can roll over a portion of the account and customize your retirement more so than you can with just the employer sponsored plan.

There are other niche reasons when people can access their retirement accounts when certain circumstances arise. Contact us for a call to discuss your personal situation and options.

That IRA (or multiple IRA accounts) can now be used to invest in just about anything you desire. Investments such as Stocks, Mutual Funds, Exchanged traded funds (ETF’s), Gold and Silver, Real Estate, Annuities, Business venture, crypto currency, and many other options.

The secret sauce is knowing what companies handle what investments with your IRA account. As a quick example a company like Fidelity might be a great fit for your stock market money but they will not be able to help you with real estate, gold, crypto, and about a dozen other options you have for your money.

Depending on what your plans are for your retirement money you might want several different custodians for your retirement funds and when you do a roll over that might be the perfect time to separate your funds from different custodians with different specialties.

Perpetual Wealth has contacts for every kind of custodian that are already approved to handle certain investments with your retirement account. Contact us for a no-obligation interview for some options you have to use as your custodian. wealthwithoutstocks@gmail.com
